Movie Reviews: Jan 17

Heyyyy Everyone,

How are you? ... I'm feeling good thanks! First day of February and I'm ready to tackle this month head on! How are you feeling about being in the second month of 2017 already?

If you know me well you will know that I absolutely love going to the cinema. I love watching a film and you can't beat it on a big screen. I would say that I'm a cheap date, but the cost of going to the cinema these days is extortionate!! I do tend to go on days that I can get a good deal like 2 for 1 with the meerkats, or at my local Vue they are doing a deal on tickets on Mondays, it’s only £3.99 for an adult ticket (bargain!).

I hadn’t been to the cinema for aaaages and then in the last month I went all out and saw 3 movies (on 3 separate occasions obviously!), so I thought I’d let you know what I thought about the movies I saw!

Collateral Beauty – Will Smith. I mean I could just leave it there. It’s got Will Smith in, therefore it will be incredible, and it did not disappoint. I did one of my favourite things to do with this movie and didn’t watch the trailer before we went. My friend said it looked good and she wanted to see it and I said ‘Say no more, I’m in!’ I love doing that because I enter the screen with a completely open mind (and I’ve not seen the best bits in the trailer!). The way this story was written was beautiful. It was definitely a tear jerker, but I quite like a film that touches me so much it makes my eyes water! Get yourself to the cinema and watch the king of acting do what he does best!

La La Land – You may be surprised to hear, I actually hadn’t seen the advert for this before going to see it at the cinema either, but of course I had heard great things and am a huge musical fan so it seemed perfect for me. I also took my cinema to see this film, she’s only 8 and this was her first ‘grown up’ movie at the cinema, but as she’s a dancer, loves musicals and watches ‘grown up’ TV at home, we thought we’d give a go. Anyway, let me get to the point, I was majorly disappointed! The film is so slow, nothing really happens, the story doesn’t flow and worst of all, there’s not even that much singing and dancing. There’s literally 1 upbeat song at the start of the movie and it dragged from there. Never mind my 8 year old sister getting restless, even I was looking at my watch at one point. I feel like this movie could have welcomed back the world of musicals and opened so many doors, but if that was anything to go by they need to go back in their offices and have a re-think before releasing a new movie! How the hell it has got so many 5 stars and nominations I’ll never know. Anyway, rant over …

T2 Trainspotting – Unfortunately, I couldn’t avoid seeing the advert for this movie. Being a huge fan of the first trainspotting, as soon as I heard that Ewan McGregor was getting back into them Adidas trainers and heading back to Edinburgh I was booking my tickets to be the first to see it! Following an incredible first movie is never going to easy, and I think we should all understand that number 2 is never going to be as good, but they didn’t half give it a good go. I laughed, I cried, I was shocked, I was hiding behind my hands, I was basically reacting everyway you should to a bloody good movie. Fantastically written and executed. I have no complaints, I didn’t want it to end!

So, there you have it, the 3 movies I saw in January and what I thought. Have you been to the cinema recently? What did you see and what did you think?
