Winter illness

Heyyyy Everyone, 


If you follow me on twitter you will know that I have spent the last few days complaining about being ill! I have felt like death. That first winter cold has hit me and I have gone through every stage at the worst possible levels. Yes, I had days when snot was pouring down my face and there was nothing I could do to stop it, I had days when I was coughing so much I couldn't even hear myself think, and then I had the days that my chest felt like it had been punched by a heavy weight boxer because of all the coughing. Trust me, this year has topped all colds, at one point I sneezed SOOO hard that a bit of sick came up, I know you didn't want to know that but please appreciate how ill I've been and if you want to send me sympathy I'd love that. 

I don't know if 'Spink Health' follow me on twitter and saw me complaining, but right in the middle of my illness I received an email from them saying 'Is your home making you ill?' It got me thinking, I know that its now winter and it's that time of year when most people get ill, but maybe there are more simple things we can do to make us better that we haven't even thought of. 

Spink Health gave a few tips to having a more healthy house that are so simple we such be doing them anyway (but I know if we are being honest we aren't). My favourite 3 suggestions were:

1. Use eco friendly cleaning products - I think this is very important anyway because you don't realise how products can damage the environment with the chemicals they involve. But I also didn't realise that some everyday cleaning products contain chemicals known as volatile organic compounds (VOCs) which can be dangerous for your respiratory health. Go eco friendly people! 

2. Consider wood flooring - This has always been an important one for me as I suffer from asthma and carpets can harbour dust, dirt, dander, bacteria and cleaning products which can be hard to get out and release potentially harmful substances into the air, worsening your indoor air quality. I know you can't just change all the floors in your house but next time you are re-decorating just think about wood, lino, tiles, all them kinds of floors. 

3. Take your shoes off at the door - Its so simple and everyone means to do it but there are always occasions you walk in with your shoes on. Having shoes on inside means all of the pollen, dirt, soil etc from outdoors is spread around your home and you don't want that!!! 

It's too late for me, I'm already ill, but I am going to be taking on this advice to fight off illnesses in the future. And I don't want any of you feeling the way I have over the past few days so you do this too! Thanks for the tips 'Spink Health'!
