July 2014 (1): Fault in our stars

Heyyyy Everyone,

I can never read a book after I've seen the film, it just doesn't feel right for me because I like to use my imagination and create the characters in my head, but if I've seen the film I just see the actors/actresses and it's less fun! That's why I wanted to read this book quickly because everyone is raving about the film so I thought I'd have a quick read before I watch it!

It was a really nice book about a young girl suffering from cancer and finding love! It was a well written story and kept me hooked.. However, it wasn't as amazing as I'd expected! I think the problem sometimes is that all the reviews, and the fact it's been made into a movie, make expectations high and it didn't quite reach mine. Don't get me wrong I enjoyed it and I would recommend it but I wouldn't put it down as one of the most amazing books I've read!

Warning- It is a tear jerker! I read part of this book sat on a bench on a busy street in Hong Kong whilst waiting for my mum to join me for lunch and I probably read the saddest part and ended up crying on the street! God knows what people were thinking of me!

Next I'll be reading 'Apple Tree Yard', by Louise Doughty, a book recommended to me by my mum. I have absolutely no idea what's it about and I'm not even going to read the synopsis, I'm just going to read and see, I trust my mums recommendations! Keep a look out for my review in a few weeks to see what I thought!

June 2014: The Husband's Secret

Heyyyy Everyone,

I know I know, this was Mays book club book and its now even past June! But if you read my 'busy schedule' tips, you will understand that I have been super busy and haven't got round to blogging let alone reading (SORRY!). However, I have finished 'The Husbands Secret, by Liane Moriarty' and by golly was it good!

I feel like I say it every time but, again, I don't want to tell you too much because I don't want to give it away. The book is written by three women's perspectives (which can take a bit of getting used to at first but stick with it and you'll get there), although the women lead separate lives they do overlap in certain areas. Theres a bit of romance, comedy and even (spoiler) a murder mystery! The book is written very well and I enjoyed the whole thing, but my favourite part of all was the Epilogue at the end, if you read this book you MUST read the epilogue!! Or I will find you and force read it to you (JOKE!) The epilogue shows what would of happened if things in the book had gone differently, you know the kind of 'if Bob hadn't of gone to the party he would of never of met Sue and his life would of turned out like this'.. you get me?? Well I love that kind of thing, it amazes me and I think about it in my own life all the time! How differently things can turn out if one thing in your day changes, crrrazy!

I'm actually on holiday at the moment in Hong Kong (expect some HK and travel blogs to come soon!), so I will treat you in July to two book reviews, to make up for the months I've missed (SORRY again!) Firstly I will be reading 'The Fault in our stars', by John Green, I really want to read it before I see the movie! Do you prefer to read a book or watch a movie, or both?
