Feb 2014: A Tiny Bit Marvellous

Heyyyy Everyone,

So February's choice of read has been A Tiny Bit Marvellous by Dawn French. I was drawn to read this book because when I saw her promoting it in an interview she was explaining how much research she had done on the book, which included interviewing her teenage daughter and all her friends to get the teenage part written just right. Maybe I should explain the book a bit better for you to understand why this drew me in!

The book is written in the style of a diary. It takes 3 peoples point of views. The mum, Mo, is about to hit the big 50. The daughter, Dora, is about to hit the big 18. Then, the son, Peter, who has a chronic Oscar Wilde fixation. The idea behind the story is that no modern family is normal and the book goes through their day to day struggles as a family, with a few twists and turns along the way. Quite an interesting, light hearted read don't you think?

Well whether you have read this book or are currently considering reading it here's my view. One word, Disappointment. I never thought that my second book review would be a negative one but I have to be honest. The last 50 pages were BRILLIANT, but if only it was all that good. I spent the first 75% of the book reading just purely to finish and move onto the next book (I can never start a book and not finish it!). I skimmed past the 'Peter' sections because I hate the way it was written. I loved the 'Dora' sections but the fact that it is suppose to be written by an 18 year old is rubbish. Considering Dawn French supposedly did all this research into the character it was written like a 15 year old, not 18! Genuinely though, I dug out my diary from 2007 (so I was 14) and it was written in the same style, with the same sort of language. I cringed!

So I'm really sorry Dawn, but I had high expectations, and until the last 25% of the book them expectations weren't reached! Gutting!

Next month I will be reading 'A Street Cat Named Bob' by James Bowen. Read along with me and tell me what you think. Feel free to suggest books for me to read and review in the comments.

Motivation is key

Heyyyy Everyone,

What is wrong with me? I've never been a super motivated person but I normally just give myself the odd night off. However, now that I'm in the most important time of, well, probably my whole education, I have NO motivation. I should be working now but I am sat listening to 1D scrolling through twitter, Facebook, Instagram and I'll probably check out Pinterest next! It's like I will do absolutely anything to avoid the work, even if that is sitting in my room starring at a blank wall in silence! I've watched 15 episodes of Vampire Diaries in 5 days and painted my nails twice in the last 48 hours! Extreme procrastination!

I'm not sure how I am going to change this! Where do you find motivation from? I feel like the motivation will kick in when its a week before the deadline and I will end up packing up my duvet and moving into the library, which isn't exactly ideal!

Got any motivational advice for me? PLEASE, help me before I fail my degree!

Blown Away

Heyyyy Everyone,

What the hell have we ever done to the weather for it to want to punish us as much as it currently is doing?? This week I have woken up every morning feeling fresh and ready to take on the day, then as soon as I open my curtains I change my mind and want to get back into bed. I know I am from the UK and should be used to this kind of weather, but just recently I feel it has got too much. Its diabolical!

The problem has been that its not just thrown me one problem, its thrown me 3! Rain, just rain, I can deal with, I have coats with hoods and my trusty umbrella, Bring it on! But rain with wind, disaster! A hood and umbrella are all good but when the rain is being blown horizontally the umbrella and hood aren't helping! I have arrived at uni the last few days with soaking wet jeans! On top of that it has been bloody freezing! I wrap up as warm as possible but find myself sweating buckets by the time I arrive at uni after tackling Sheffields hills. I can't seem to get the right amount of clothes right, I want to be warm enough outside but not sweat when I get my trek on!

Tonight the wind was just ridiculous. I genuinely got blown home from university, I think if weren't for the amount of 'bad' foods I consume, and therefore the extra weight around my middle, I would of been blown away! I was heading home tonight, for a weekend of free food and laundry service, but I almost didn't bother because I was pretty scared to tackle the motorway in my little corsa (Suzy). When I heard that dinner was being cooked I couldn't turn down the free food just because of the weather, so I went for it. Honestly, it was the scariest drive of my life, some of the lorries looked like they were going to topple over and I could feel myself getting pulled across the lanes! But I am home safe, warm and well fed!

I've had enough now! Sun where are you? Please come back to me, I need you!

Celebrity Overload

Heyyyy Everyone,

What would your reaction be if One Direction were walking down the same street as you? I don't know what I'd do, but I know one thing for sure, it would be dramatic! Maybe I would pass out, maybe I would run and dive on them, or maybe I would just be frozen with excitement. I've only recently discovered my obsession with celebs. One night out in Liverpool last year I met Jorgie Porter, Gemma Merna & Nikki Sanderson, 3 girls from Hollyoaks. I'm going to blame my reaction slightly on the alcohol I had consumed, but to be quite honest it made my night and I did not stop telling people or jumping around, I even got the shakes I was so excited!

In January I was able to go and work at The Toy Fair exhibition in London. Of course in the toy world there were many celebrities, so myself and Rosie decided to make it our challenge to get as many photos with as many famous characters as possible. I genuinely got excited about a few of these pictures!

(I apologise for the quality of the pictures, they were just taken on my phone)

Dennis the Menace

Sooty & Sweep

Iggle Piggle & Upsy Daisy

? We couldn't decide if this was a Moshi Monster or a Pokemon ?

What the hell is this? Anyone?

?? Rosie told me who this guy is and now I can't remember, he's a happy chappy though ??

Peppa Pig & George

Sonic The Hedgehog

Sylvanian Families

Minions (AHHH EXCITED)

Lego People!

This one slipped in after a few drinks, not quite sure it counts but, hey thai lady!

Are these celebrities? In my eyes they are and I am pretty impressed with how many pictures we got. Ok so we did miss Union J (real celebrities) which is a bit of a bummer, but we got a picture with Minions, GO US! Have you had your picture taken with any cool Celebs? Tweet me your pictures at EmmaJessica27
