Heyyyy Everyone,

This isn't the kind of travel blog I thought I would be writing this week.
Last week my life came crashing down, all my plans were crushed and my dreams were shattered.

I was due to be travelling to Canada, but unfortunately without the correct paperwork was refused entry. After being sat through a horrendous 3 hours in immigration I was put on the first plane back. I didn't get a breath of fresh air for 30 hours and spent 21 hours sat on a plane. What didn't help the situation was that I have been full of cold. With a blocked nose, blocked ears, a sore throat and a fuzzy head I just couldn't quite believe the whole situation, I'm still sure now that I'm going to wake up from this nightmare.

I have been curled up in a ball on the sofa bursting into tears at any mention of what happened, but now I've had time to recover what I don't want to do is dwell on my experience. I have had a few days to get my head around the situation and now I'd like to look towards the future and my next plan.

I'm a huge believer in 'everything happens for a reason'. I'm not sure what the reasoning for this is yet but there are a number of silver linings just a few of them being;

1. I'm going to be able to welcome my baby brother into the world.
2. I've spent Christmas with my family.
3. I can move some super exciting trips forward.

I will not change my goal of travelling and seeing the world so it looks like my plans to go to Australia have been brought forward and I can't wait to start planning.

If anyone has any advice for me on travelling around Australia please let me know in the comments!

December 2014: Starter for Ten

Heyyyy Everyone,

I was really excited to read this book because I am a big David Nicholls fan. It did not disappoint. It is based around a young lad getting through his first year of university. I really liked that it was written from a 'male' point of view, it just made it different to a usual rom com. I wouldn't rant and rave about this book being a 'must' read but if your looking for an easy to read, likeable storyline, it is definitely that. The only thing I struggled with was that it is set in the 80s and there quite a few 80s references I didn't understand.

I've just read online that it was made into a movie in 2006, so I'm going to go watch that now! By the way, if you are going to read this book then don't go and watch the trailer for the film, because it basically gives everything away!

Next month I will be reading one of my christmas presents. The new Zoella book 'Girl Online'

November 2014: We Are Completely Beside Ourselves

Heyyyy Everyone,

See I promised I would read this one in a month and I've done it! Although I don't quite know how I've managed it because I have been trying to avoid this book. I have to give honest reviews and this book is genuinely not what I thought it would be. And I've struggled to get through it.

The synopsis made out like it was going to be this big thriller, a girl who tells the story about how and why her brother and sister went missing. But *SPOILER* turns out her sister was a chimpanzee, and her upbringing was an experiment by her psychologist father. I know, it just didn't interest me. I think if you were interested in psychology and testing on animals and that kind of thing you might of found some of the information in it quite interesting but it just didn't float my boat.

Once I start reading a book I can't not finish it, same with a movie, even if its crap I watch it all the way through. The story did have a nice ending and some funny bits in the middle, but just not enough to keep me hooked. I'm not sure I'll be passing this book onto anyway I'm afraid. Sorry Karen Joy Fowler!

Next month I will be reading 'Starter for Ten' By David Nicholls. I absolutely LOVED 'One Day', so I am sure I will enjoy this book too!

'Next' Christmas Wishlist

Heyyyy Everyone,

When I was a kid I used to get the argos catalogue and rip out the pictures of the toys I wanted for christmas. As I got older I moved onto the Next catalogue. This year I thought I'd be a bit more 'up-to-date' and blog my Next wish list!

1. Every girl needs new Pyjamas for christmas. I usually open mine on christmas eve so I can wake up in them on christmas day! Next always have the cutest PJ sets and this year I am loving this set in particular..
(Animal Cuff Pyjamas £25)

I find these style of bottoms really comfy and as I spend most my time in PJs I like sets that I can get away with wearing all day, this set is acceptable right?

2. Every girl sets the new years resolution to get fit and get rid of that christmas weight, so  of course gym wear is on my wish list, and how funky are these leggings!
(Animal Side Stripe Leggings £14)

3. It's kind of been a tradition to get slippers for Christmas in my house. And normally by christmas day last years slippers have holes and are very ready to be replaced. So I found these super duper cute Cat slippers for this year, how bloody adorable..
(Cat Smoking Slippers £12)

I have limited myself to my top 3 items otherwise this wish list would go on forever, next has some amazing clothes in their winter collection, some next vouchers would be great if there is anyone out there struggling to know what to get me ;-)

Fellow bloggers, why don't you blog your next wish list as well, you'd be in the chance to win an item off your list! The details are all HERE!

Winter illness

Heyyyy Everyone,

If you follow me on twitter you will know that I have spent the last few days complaining about being ill! I have felt like death. That first winter cold has hit me and I have gone through every stage at the worst possible levels. Yes, I had days when snot was pouring down my face and there was nothing I could do to stop it, I had days when I was coughing so much I couldn't even hear myself think, and then I had the days that my chest felt like it had been punched by a heavy weight boxer because of all the coughing. Trust me, this year has topped all colds, at one point I sneezed SOOO hard that a bit of sick came up, I know you didn't want to know that but please appreciate how ill I've been and if you want to send me sympathy I'd love that.

I don't know if 'Spink Health' follow me on twitter and saw me complaining, but right in the middle of my illness I received an email from them saying 'Is your home making you ill?' It got me thinking, I know that its now winter and it's that time of year when most people get ill, but maybe there are more simple things we can do to make us better that we haven't even thought of.

Spink Health gave a few tips to having a more healthy house that are so simple we such be doing them anyway (but I know if we are being honest we aren't). My favourite 3 suggestions were:

1. Use eco friendly cleaning products - I think this is very important anyway because you don't realise how products can damage the environment with the chemicals they involve. But I also didn't realise that some everyday cleaning products contain chemicals known as volatile organic compounds (VOCs) which can be dangerous for your respiratory health. Go eco friendly people!

2. Consider wood flooring - This has always been an important one for me as I suffer from asthma and carpets can harbour dust, dirt, dander, bacteria and cleaning products which can be hard to get out and release potentially harmful substances into the air, worsening your indoor air quality. I know you can't just change all the floors in your house but next time you are re-decorating just think about wood, lino, tiles, all them kinds of floors.

3. Take your shoes off at the door - Its so simple and everyone means to do it but there are always occasions you walk in with your shoes on. Having shoes on inside means all of the pollen, dirt, soil etc from outdoors is spread around your home and you don't want that!!!

It's too late for me, I'm already ill, but I am going to be taking on this advice to fight off illnesses in the future. And I don't want any of you feeling the way I have over the past few days so you do this too! Thanks for the tips 'Spink Health'!

Be healthy guys!

Movie Review

Heyyyy Everyone,

I've been going a bit crazy on the old Netflix over the past few weeks. I go through phases when I love watching TV series after TV series and then other times I just make my way through thousands of movies. It's been a movie watching month and so I thought I would do a few movie reviews. I hope you like it!

Love Wrecked
A classic teenage movie, with bad acting and a predictable storyline, but sometimes you just can't beat it! I was shocked at the amount of famous people in this movie; Amanda Bynes (yep, remember the Amanda Show!), Chris Carmack (Luke for The O.C. one of the best TV shows in the world) and Alfonso Ribeiro (Carlton from the Fresh Prince!!), they are just a few of the great actors and actresses. It's a good, easy watch if you fancy a classic , cheesy love story.

Beauty & the Briefcase
Hillary Duff, you just can't beat her can you. Her movies are always easy to watch, with a typical happy ending. They are the predictable kind of love story but one you just can't help but enjoy! I think you have to like Hillary Duff though to like her movies because, let's be honest, she plays the same character in every movie. If I'm being brutally honest she can't really act, she is just herself, but I still love it.

Stuck in Love
I really enjoyed this movie because there were so many relationships. Relationships between couples, divorced couples, parents and children, brothers and sisters. I don't want to give too much away but it has a great story line and a definite recommendation from me!

Love and Other Impossible Pursuits
Wow, how to explain this movie. I guess it's main storyline is about a women who has entered a relationship and having trouble with her new step-son. There are so many different elements to the story like there relationship, her relationship with her new husband, and then the fact that she lost her baby when it was only a few months old! Great storyline, great watch!

You Again
Kristen Bell, Jamie Lee Curtis AND Betty White, I know what your thinking it's a great movie already, I know right! The story of a girl who is going to meet her brothers fiancĂ© just a week before the big wedding and discovers that his wife-to-be is her biggest high school enemy! It's so funny, I loved it!

What Maisie Knew
I chose to watch this because I though it would be a bit different from the classic romantic, love story. It is about a young girl being caught in the middle of her parents bitter custody battle. I was hocked the whole way though, although it was quite slow it was going somewhere and I couldn't stop watching, but the ending.. EURGH the ending. It just ended with so many questions not answered. When I finished I was like 'Whhhhaaattt?!', rather annoying!

Like Crazy
I watched this straight after 'What Maisie Knew' and was so angry by the end of the night, it was another frustrating ending!! I loved this film because it was a proper tear jerker, the struggle of making a long distance relationship work. I really was hocked, and it's not that the ending was bad but it just sort of opened doors to more questions, well one question in particular. You know when you were younger and it was always 'and the moral of the story is..'. I think this movie has a moral but I can't say it because it will give the ending away ha. If you fancy a cry then watch this movie!

Me too Niall, me too!

Have you watched any good movies recently? Any recommendations on movies I can watch on Netflix?

Rainbow Cake

Heyyyy Everyone,

I've been baking again! I had a friend to stay a few weeks ago and when we were deciding what to do I suggested baking. Its the perfect thing to do when the weather isn't great! We decided we would experiment a bit and so went for a rainbow cake. The idea of this cake is for it to be at least 6 layers of all different colours, but we didn't want to jump in at the deep end so we went for 3 layers.

For the Cake
350g plain flour
4 teaspoons baking powder
3/4 teaspoon salt
4 egg whites
300g caster sugar
170g unsalted butter, softened
350ml milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
six rainbow food colourings (here I used 3 this time)

For the Icing
75g unsalted butter
500g icing sugar, sifted
4 tablespoons milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1. As always... wash your hands!

2. Preheat the oven at 180c and grease your cake tines (dependant on how many layers you are doing, so here I greased 3, next time I'll be adventurous and go for 6!!)

3. sift the flour, baking powder and salt together

4. In a sperate bowl beat the egg whites until foamy. Then slowly add 100g of the sugar and continue beating until a soft peak forms.

5. Beat the butter until it is smooth then slowly add the remaining sugar and egg mixture creaming together until fluffy.

6. Add the sifted ingredients, the milk and the vanilla to your mixture beating until smooth.

7. Fold in the egg whites till no streaks of egg white remain.

8. divide the cake mixture evenly into the amount of bowls as colours you re using and add a few drops of food colouring to each bowl. (start with a little food colouring and add more drops for a more vibrant colour)

9. Fill your prepared cake tins with the cake mixture and bake for 15 to 20 minutes, or until a skewer inserted into the centre comes out clean.

10. Whilst the cake is baking and chilling make your icing. First beat the butter until it is fluffy and then gradually add half of the icing sugar whilst eating well.  Slowly beat in the milk and vanilla. Then the remaining sugar.

11. Once the cake are completely cool place the first layer on a serving plate and cover the top with icing. Add a second layer and repeat until all layers are used.

12. Decorate it however you like, I've just used a few hundreds and thousands to make it colourful!

As always send me pictures of your baking on twitter to @EmmaJessica27

October 2014: The Humans

Heyyyy Everyone,

I know what your thinking, it has taken me 3 months to read this book, it genuinely has taken 3 months! OOOPPPSS! I have just been super busy and getting into bed and reading has been the last thing on my mind, that does make me sad though because I love reading, and not being able to read much over the last few months has made me realise I have to take time out for myself and do the things I love, like reading!

Anyway, onto the book. This wasn't a choice of my own, it was given to me by a friend. I know I am going to struggle to explain this book, so I have put a few of my favourite quotes in to help you understand, here goes. A brief outline is that it is about an 'alien' who comes to earth to destroy a mathematicians findings. He has never experienced earth before and has to learn all about how humans live. It has comical factors to it, like when the alien discovers he has to wear clothes. Here's a quote I enjoyed:

"When I first arrived here I did not understand why clothes were so important, or why a dead cow became beef, or why grass cut a certain way demanded not to be walked upon, or why household pets were so important to them'

I really loved this book because it made you sit back and think about how we live and why we do things.

'Humans waste a lot of their time - almost all of it - with hypothetical stuff. I could be rich, I could be famous, I could have been hit by that bus, I could have been born with fewer moles and bigger breasts, I could have spent more of my youth learning foreign languages. They must exercise the conditional tense more than any other known life form.'

It was really a good read, so different to the type of thing I would normally read but I am very thankful to my friend for recommending it and I would now recommend it to you. Especially if your fed up with the usual rom coms and predictable endings. Here is my favourite quote from the book..

'I was drinking tea.. the tea seemed to be making things better. It was a hot drink made of leaves, used in times of crisis as a means of resorting normality.'

Next month I will be reading 'We are all completely beside ourselves' by Karen Joy Fowler, and I pinky promise it won't take me 3 months to read this one!!

Chocolate Orange Cheesecake

Heyyyy Everyone,

I realise I have been a bit quiet on the baking front, but fear not! I have some cakes up my sleeve (not literally). I baked this yummy chocolate orange cheesecake for a family get together, which, at first thought probably wasn't the best time to try making a cheesecake for the very first time. Luckily, it was a success and went down very well! My nan even asked for the recipe! So why don't you give it a go?

For The Base
50 g Butter, melted
200g dark chocolate digestives, finely crushed
For The Filling
500g cream cheese
150ml sour cream
200g caster sugar
1 1/2 tbsp plain flour
1 tsp vanilla extract
Zest of 1 Orange
2 medium eggs, separated
To Decorate
 150 g Plain Chocolate

1. As always, first things first.. WASH YOUR HANDS!!

2. Grease an 8in baking tin and preheat your oven at 180

3. Mix the butter and crushed biscuits and press them into the baking tin. They can now chill whilst you prepare the rest

4. In a large bowl, whisk together all the filling ingredients (except the egg whites). Whisk the egg whites in a separate bowl until soft peak stage. Fold the whites into the cream cheese mixture.

(The whole way through the process I got words of wisdom from my excellent baking nan.)

5. Pour the mixture into the baking tin on top of your base and bake in the oven for 35-40 minutes until lightly golden.

6. It then needs to be left to chill for at least 2 hrs, but preferably overnight.

7. To Decorate- There are so many fancy ways to decorate this cake but I am not very good at the decorating part. So I just grated the chocolate on top of the cake!

As you can see, it went down well with my family! Why don't you have a go and send me your pictures on twitter @EmmaJessica27

One Chance at Love

Heyyyy Everyone,

I'm sorry the blog is being posted so late tonight, it's still hump day but it is very close to midnight ha. I wrote this blog the other day and when it came to publishing it earlier I hesitated. I guess it's because it's a hard subject isn't it, love. And I was scared at what some peoples responses may be.. but agh what the heck! 'Haters gonna hate' as they say, I like to chatter so screw it, I'mma chatter about love and not give a damn HA anyway, back to the blog...

Have you ever thought about how many chances you get at love? At finding that one person that will mean the world to you? It's a strange thing to think about I guess but it crossed my mind the other day when something reminded me of, what I would consider as, my first love. It was a small thing that triggered a fond memory and got me thinking, 'was that my true love', 'was that my chance at love'... then I started to panic slightly, 'was that my one chance and I messed it up?'

Everyone says there is one person out there that is your soul mate, and when you find them you will know it is true love. What they don't specify though is whether you can meet that person, mess up and then have missed your chance at a happily ever after.

It's quite a depressing thing to think about but it crossed my mind and I wanted to share it and get your thoughts. Comment telling me how many chances you think we get at love? Surely we get dealt a few cards just incase we mess up first time round?

I realise this quote has nothing to do with having one chance at love, but it put a smile on my face after such a depressing post!

Vintage Fashion: Cow Haul

Heyyyy Everyone,

Ever thought you were born in the wrong era? I always do! My friend showed me an amazing vintage shop in Nottingham called Cow. They also have stores in Birmingham, Manchester & Sheffield. We spent an hour and a half looking round and I ended up trying on at least 20 items, but I had to think about my poor bank account and limited myself to just my 3 favourites! A suave polka dot midi skirt, a super cute floral autumn dress, and my absolute fave, the prettiest brogues ever! I wore all these items to a 2 day exhibition that I worked at last week in London so please excuse the terrible backgrounds of the photos, they were taken in the hotel room before I rushed off to work.

I teamed this little outfit with my M&S coat that I actually brought in spring but I think I'll wear loads this autumn.

Are they not just the cutest brogues you've ever seen! I'm in love!

I'll be back doing a lot more shopping in Cow from now on! Do you like vintage shopping? Can you recommend any other vintage shops for me to look in?

Fitness Blender Review

Heyyyy Everyone,

My friend recently showed me an amazing YouTube channel for workouts. Not only is it an amazing workout but it is of course all free (no hefty gym membership costs!).

It's called 'FitnessBlender' and there is something for everyone. They have 100's of different types of workouts. There's short videos that you can fit around your busy schedule or there's longer ones if you've got a bit more time on your hands. There are videos for beginners so don't worry if your just starting out and don't want anything too hard (I certainly can't handle anything harder than beginner). And best of all your able to do it from the comfort of your own home!

My fave video so far is a kickboxing video because it works my arms and thats my least favourite part of my body.  I'm pretty busy at the moment so have just been fitting in short videos when I can, but once I have a bit more time on my hands I really want to try the 5 day workout challenge. My friend has just finished it and she said it targets different areas of the body each day so at the end of the 5 days you've had an all round workout. She said she enjoyed it, although it did kill her a bit. I'm sort of scared but also excited to try it. As I have work early tomorrow I am just going to get up 10 minutes earlier to fit in the squat challenge.. why don't you do it with me and let me know what you think...

I hope you enjoy! Ciao EmmaJessica <3

The Little Things Count The Most

Heyyyy Everyone,

I want to remind anyone reading this to appreciate the small things, because sometimes it's the small things that count the most and make an experience extra special.

Recently a lot of things have happened to me and I've been overwhelmed by the smallest things. I got picked up from the airport last month and my car had a complimentary bottle of water in it. I was soooo thirsty and hot after my flight that I could of kissed my driver, I was so grateful for that bottle of water. I've also stayed in a lot of hotels recently and being very busy with work I've left my hotel room in a rush in the mornings leaving it looking like a bomb has hit it. So to come home after a busy day of work and walk into a room which has had the bed made, my PJs folded and my cosmetics organised neatly on the side has just been heaven! I wish I could personally thank that maid!

Someone cooking your dinner for you, holding a door open for you or even letting you know you've got toilet paper attached to the bottom of your shoe (so embarrassing!). Don't become the type of person that expects these things, be someone who is grateful every time they happen, because it makes the world such a more pleasing place to live in, and the smallest things can make your day.

When looking for quotes to go with this blog I couldn't just choose one... they all fit:

What little things make your day?

Act your age

Heyyyy Everyone,

I'm having a scared moment. I'm scared that I just told someone I was 21, I fully believed I was 21 and my friend had to remind me that I'm 22, not far off 23! I've been wondering why people keep asking me what I am going to do with my life and then I realised it's because I'm at the age when I really should have some idea what I want to do... problem is, I don't!

I think it's the fact people are currently going back to university and I'm not, I've finished and I should be starting my career! Don't get me wrong I have a plan, but it's only a plan that will get me to the end of 2015, then I'll have to make a new plan! Is it wrong that I'm not passionate about starting my adult life yet? I'm not fussed about starting my life long career, or investing in a property. I just think I should have at least 3 more years of fun before I really need to start my life plan.. that's fair right?

Well my reassurance is that when I was looking for a quote/photo to go along side this blog I found this...

.. and so I thought to myself 'screw it, I will carry on loving life and I'll reassess this situation when I'm 25'. If I'm honest, when I'm 25 I'll probably think exactly the same and give myself another 3 years, but we'll cross that bridge when we get to it!

At what age do you think I need to start growing up?

Ciao EmmaJessica <3

P.S. After I'd finished this blog, I found this little gem which I think fits perfectly:

Cry Baby

Heyyyy Everyone,

How are you? I'm feeling emotional, not for any reason in particular. I guess I'm writing this blog to reassure myself that it's okay to cry.. it is okay right?
Well I hope it is, because I cry a lot! I cry when I'm sad (obviously), I cry when I'm happy, I cry when I'm feeling proud, I cry when I'm tired, I cry at TV, at YouTube videos, and at music, and sometimes I cry just because I feel like a good cry.

I'm not writing this blog because I want someone to say 'I hope your okay'. In fact I don't really know why I'm writing about it. I guess its because I just cried at a Zoella Vlog and suddenly realised I'm such a cry baby, which then made me think of the Cee Lo Green song and I sort of laugh/cried to myself for a while.

The good thing about it, is after a good cry I always feel better. So I don't mind, I just have to let people know that if my emotions run high it may result in tears, and if that does happen they shouldn't panic, I will stop soon and it will be better afterwards.

If your a bit of a cry baby, don't worry your not alone!! Or am I the only one?

Heyyyy Everyone,

An English Girl In Hong Kong

Heyyyy Everyone,

So if you follow me on twitter or instagram you will know I have just been to Hong Kong. My mum works in Hong Kong a lot, so I tagged along for the journey and did a mixture of relaxing and sightseeing. I thought I would fill you in on a few of my pros and cons of Hong Kong...

Pros +

The food! Oh My Gosh the food.. don't think about your local Chinese take away, no no no, however much you might think its the best take away, the food in Hong Kong is 10000% times better! I could not stop eating, and like travelling anywhere in the world, I always say you have to try everything, which I did and well there was a lot to try! I genuinely daren't get on the scales, because I'm sure they will scream at me 'jesus what have you been eating for the past few weeks elephant!!'

The Islands - A lot of people think of Hong Kong as a built up city (which parts of it are), and expect to be able to see the whole of Hong Kong in just a few days. But that is because they don't explore the islands. The islands are absolutely beautiful. They have beaches, scenery, more good food, places to see/visit, and more. You could easily spend a 2 week holiday just travelling the islands of Hong Kong!

Cons -

The Weather! Pick the time you visit wisely.. I probably chose the hottest time and by golly it was hot. It's the strangest thing because the buildings are soooo air conditioned that when you walk outside its like walking into an oven, so you actually have to pack a jacket in your bag for inside (it's a strange thing to get your head around).. I kind of just got used to the heat and constantly sweating but it is difficult and the heat can make me very lazy and irritable, which nobody wants during a holiday!

The other tourists- I am used to being a tourist and sticking out like a sore thumb with my camera round my neck, my backpack and trainers on and a map in hand... but in Hong Kong I stuck out even more. It seems most of the other tourist were from China Mainland and there are hardly any 'white' people (I apologise if I offend anyone, I just don't know a better way to put it).. so you can imagine me on my own, yeah I kinda stood out from the crowd! And what made it worst for me is people wanting to have there picture taken with me.. I am not celebrity, nor am I a rare species, so why do you want your picture taken with me? I'm just trying to enjoy the view please leave me be.. sorry went off on a rant, but it made me feel sorry for celebrities because I could not handle that 24/7!

Anyway, I only wrote a few things here because if I allowed myself to write all my thoughts on Hong Kong I would be here all day! Let me know in the comments if you want me to write more, maybe some tips of travelling there?

I thought I would leave you with the video I made of my trip (please don't judge, I am not a professional YouTuber so my videoing and editing skills are not amazing, but I hope you enjoy it), you can watch the video with the link HERE

Where have you been on holiday recently? What did you think?

July 2014 (2): Apple Tree Yard

Heyyyy Everyone,

As promised here is my review of Apple Tree Yard by Louise Doughty.

WOW!!! I absolutely loved this book, its got everything I want, mystery, romance, drama! It's about a women's affair that goes wrong, she enters into a world she does not know and it gets her in a very sticky situation! I couldn't put this book down, I thought it was brilliant the whole way through and then it shocked me even more in the last few pages and became probably one of my favourite reads! I think this book would be very marmite (love it or hate it), but if you like the style of writing and a bit of a mysterious book you will fro sure fall in love. READ IT!!

Next month I will be reading 'The Humans by Matt Haig'. I gave 'Apple Tree Yard' to my friend to read because I had to pass it straight on (I love passing on good reads), and she said can I give you a book to read, and so 'The Humans' it was.

What you reading at the moment? Got any recommendations for me?
